The director of communications, under the general direction of the executive vice president, oversees MedMen’s corporate communications activities, including but not limited to; public relations, media relations, employee communications and investor relations.
 
The director of communication’s top responsibility is to help craft and tell MedMen’s story. That means developing, updating and executing a communications plan that tells a cohesive narrative around the company, its mission and values.
 
In carrying out that responsibility, the director of communications works closely with the company leadership, both taking direction and giving advice on strategies and tactics. They will also collaborate closely with other company departments such as marketing, human resources and creative services to ensure uniformity of message and brand identity to various audiences.
 
Responsibilities:
 
  • Communications Planning: Draft and execute a comprehensive communications plan that addresses messaging and tactical needs for various target audiences. Include communication department’s growth strategy and goals for next 6 months and year. Update every six months.
  • Messaging: Create messaging and talking points as needed to articulate MedMen’s vision and values, and its position on various industry and regulatory issues.
  • Media Relations: Draft media relations strategy and execute. Vet and manage public relations agency of record. Manage day-to-day interactions with news media on behalf of the company, and serve as the first point of contact for news outlets. This includes only earned media, no paid media. Provide media training to company spokespeople. Monitor and manage medmen.com/newsroom and Twitter account.
  • Investor Relations: Draft and execute an investor relations communication plan. Create communication pieces, including newsletters and collaterals, aimed at existing and potential investors that keep the audience engaged and excited about MedMen’s capital ventures.
  • Internal Communications: In close collaboration with the head of human resources, draft an internal communications plan that communicates MedMen’s mission and values to employees. Ensure the plan addresses the need for a well-informed workforce united behind a common cause. The implementation and execution of the internal communications plan will be the responsibility of the head of human resources.
  • Metrics: Provide communication metrics and analytics to ensure performance is aligned with company goals and expectations. Present report to executive leadership on a quarterly basis for review against existing communication goals. Change of direction as needed.
  • Budget: Prepare department’s annual budget and participate in the forecast of additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials and supplies.
  • Brand and style guidelines: Enforce the company’s brand and style guidelines across all communication materials, public facing and internal.
  • Crisis Communication: Develop a plan for crisis communication. Act the company’s public information officer in the event of a crisis event.
