MedMen is seeking a Manager of Tax to join its Finance & Accounting team. Reporting to the Director of Tax, the Manager is responsible for compliance with all corporate taxes and mitigation of tax risk to the company. This position will prepare all tax provisions and manage federal, state, and local corporate tax compliance, including setting up and documenting processes and procedures, and will direct tax compliance from third party firms related to income tax, sales/use tax, excise tax, and property tax filings. Additionally, this position will support M&A activities and implement tax saving strategies. This position will be based out of the company’s Culver City, California office.

Essential Functions
The following is a list of essential job requirements.  This list may be revised at any time and additional duties not listed here may be assigned as needed.   Job functions and Job Responsibility include, but are not limited to:
  • Prepare annual tax provisions and related footnote disclosures in accordance with public company filing requirements. Prepare estimated quarterly tax provisions, entries and reconciliations. Calculate and prepare federal, state and local estimated tax payments.
  • Manage external tax consultants for the tax compliance process and coordinate preparation of workpapers in support of applicable federal and state income tax, sales/use tax, excise tax and property tax returns. Respond to tax inquiries and notices.
  • Plan for and develop overall return calendar and coordinate timing and inputs with broader Finance & Accounting team to ensure visibility into deadlines for all MedMen entities.
  • Reconcile transaction tax activity, support sales/use, excise, and property tax compliance utilizing third party tax consultants and prepare monthly tax payments. Evaluate external tax firms for quality of service and pricing.
  • Maintain knowledge of current tax laws and regulations and keep management informed of current legislation; evaluate tax consequences of various ideas and implement tax saving strategies.
  • Proactively evaluate and recommend changes to the processes that could impact compliance, the tax provision, effective tax rate and tax exposures arising from changes in our business.
  • Assist with the company’s transfer pricing policies.
  • Coordinate with accounting staff to reconcile all federal and state income tax general ledger accounts.
  • Support the training, coaching and development of a growing tax team.

Education and/or Experience
  • CPA certification required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance, Master’s Degree in Taxation or Accounting preferred.
  • 7-10 years of relevant tax experience, with 4+ years of public accounting experience preferred.
  • Strong technical knowledge of tax accounting principles and disclosure requirements.
  • Working knowledge of federal and state income tax, sales/use tax, excise tax and property tax compliance.
  • Knowledge of consumer packaged goods, manufacturing, distribution or retail industries preferred.
