Shipping Clerk

Summary
The shipping clerk is responsible to accurately pull and pack out going shipments. The shipping clerk will also be asked to assist in the restocking of goods in the distribution center. They will follow the direction and schedule of the shipping manager. The shipping clerk may also be asked to assist other departments in other areas of the warehouse. 


Essential Functions

  • Keep and verify records on outgoing shipments
  • Assemble cardboard containers or select preassembled containers
  • Insert items into containers and prepare items for shipment
  • Attach shipping labels on packed stencils or cartons; identify shipping information on goods, using labeling  printer
  • Place items into containers using fillers, spacers and protective padding
  • Examine outgoing shipments and make sure they conform with specifications
  • Investigate and resolve situations where items received are not properly documented in the daily receipt log
  • May be required to perform only receiving or shipping activities
  • Cooperate with representatives from other departments in the organization to provide warehouse information as requested
  • Perform regular material warehouse audits to ensure that material is undamaged and maintained neatly throughout the warehouse
  • Safely utilize forklifts cum power jacks to move warehouse materials according to proper safety instructions and as directed
  • Determine method of shipment by utilizing knowledge of shipping procedures, rates and routes


Experience & Skills:
  • Requires knowledge of inventory procedures and general warehousing terminology and practices.
  • Skills in mathematics. Familiarity with warehouse and inventory management systems required.
  • Accuracy and thoroughness required with great attention to detail.
  • Requires continuous improvement mindset and experience
  • Interpersonal and communication skills are important.
  • Organization, Dealing with Complexity, Deadline-Oriented, Time Management, Process Improvement, Safety Management, Inventory Control, Lifting, Data Entry Skills.
 
Environmental Working Conditions & Physical Effort:
  • Work assignments are diversified. Examples of past precedent are used to resolve work problems. New alternatives may be developed to resolve problems.
  • A frequent volume of work and deadlines impose strain on routine basis.
  • Physical effort is required. Day to day duties does require walking, standing, bending, reaching, lifting or carrying objects that typically weigh less than 50 lbs.
