Packaging Technician

The Packaging Technician is responsible for performing packaging work on different Finished Product packaging lines within the facility in a labor-intensive environment. Starts, operates, tends, stops, and cleans machines in packaging areas. Assemble and package finished food and other consumable products. Inspects and ensures products meet company quality standards per our Quality Control department.
 The Packaging technician reports directly to the Packaging Lead.

Essential Functions

  • Operate packaging manual, semi-automatic and automatic machinery and instrumentation including; but not limited to, shrink tunnels, flow wraps, conveyors, band sealers and metal detectors,
  • Record all manufacturing activities within QA controlled documentation including batch records and forms
  • Assist with multiple Finished Product packaging lines as needed
  • Adheres to the daily packaging schedule to ensure efficiency goals are achieved
  • Cross train with other packaging line roles
  • Maintain personal training documentation on a timely basis
  • Load and unload from machines, carts, and pallets
  • Maintains a high level of safety awareness for an accident-free work place and reports any unsafe or hazardous work conditions or safety-related issues to Management.
  • Ensure compliance with all Food Safety, cGMP and other regulatory requirements.
  • Minor equipment maintenance
  • Transport products to storage areas
  • Maintain clean manufacturing area surfaces and interface with Wash Room personnel to effectively clean those equipment parts which may not be cleaned-in-place.
  • Clean production area on a daily basis.
  • Sweep, mop, and remove debris
  • Ensures that all work activities are performed with attention to the highest standards for quality, safety and compliance with all appropriate legal and food safety requirements and a focus on continuous improvement.
  • May assist Manufacturing, Bakery and Kitchen manufacturing activities as required.
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or its equivalent required.
  • Food manufacturing or packaging experience desired.

  • Good interpersonal, written and oral communications skills.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with a variety of diverse individuals within the plant.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and keep records on a variety documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, formulas, and policy and procedures manuals.
  • Exceptional math skills – the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.
  • Ability to thrive in a constantly changing environment.
